As states begin to reopen after quarantine, you’ll find your favorite retailer looks a lot different than when you last left it.

Shoppers will be greeted with a bunch of new social distancing and sanitization measures aimed at preventing the spread of COVID-19, but they’ll also run into unprecedented discounts.

Many stores are trying to make up for lost time by holding clearance sales, off-loading product that has been sitting on shelves for at least two months.

 

Anthropologie Reopening

Has Anthropologie reopened? Yes, in Alabama, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Utah.

New COVID policies: Social distancing markers, employee facial masks, constant cleaning of regularly touched surfaces, cash/checks not accepted, limiting the number of in-store shoppers, fewer people in fitting rooms, and fitting rooms cleaned after every use.

Apple Stores Reopening

Has the Apple Store reopened? Yes, in Idaho, South Carolina, Alabama, and Alaska, with Florida, Hawaii, Oklahoma, and Colorado up next — plus curbside service for California and Washington.

New COVID policies: Required face coverings (Apple will provide for people without one), social distancing rules, low occupancy limits, staff temperature checks.

There’s a constant stream of Apple deals happening.

 

Barnes & Noble Reopening

Has Barnes & Noble reopened? B&N has opened 51 outlets in 15 states (Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, and Wyoming). 500 stores are open for curbside pickup.

New COVID policies: Enhanced cleaning, reduced store hours, in-store customer limits, social distancing markers, protective barriers, employee facial coverings, employee wellness checks, designated areas to return browsed books so they may be sanitized, to-go orders only at cafes, and no in-store events.

New sign-ups for a Barnes & Noble Membership get 20% off their first order. We also watch Barnes & Noble deals as they come out.

 

Bath & Body Works Reopening

Has Bath & Body Works reopened? Yes, in “select locations,” although so far it seems that it’s limited to the company’s home state of Ohio. On their reopening page, they have customers put in their ZIP code to be notified when their location has reopened.

New COVID policies: None announced yet.

Lots of soap and sanitizer on sale lately. There are rumors of a 60% off storewide sale (they’re happening at B&BW locations in other countries), although there’s nothing confirmed in the U.S. No worries — we’re watching Bath & Body Works deals.

 

 

Bed Bath & Beyond Reopening

Has Bed Bath & Beyond reopened? Now 750 stores are open for curbside pickup service (about half the total number of stores); BB&B is opening 20 stores in various states by May 22, but didn’t say which ones. (One reader told us Wisconsin is definitely on the list.)

New COVID policies: Early shopping hours for ages 60+, occupancy limits, available wipes and sanitizer, enhanced cleaning measures, social distancing measures, and sneeze guards.

Best Buy Stores Reopening

Has Best Buy reopened? Yes, for curbside pickup and by appointment only at 200 stores.

New COVID policies: In-store shopping is by appointment only, with controlled entry and exit. Enforced social distancing, new signs and floor stickers, increased sanitization measures such as wiping products before and after demos, and protective gear for employees.

Burlington Reopening

Has Burlington reopened? As of May 11, 27 stores reopened, although subsequent waves of reopenings will take place throughout May.

New COVID policies: One-way entrances/exits, social distancing signage and markers, routine cleaning, disinfecting wipes available throughout the store, face coverings for associates.

Burlington is making headlines with a historic, first-ever 50% off clothing sale.

 

Gap Reopening

Has Gap reopened? Some stores have resumed operations, and the company plans to have 800 stores open again by the end of the month.

New COVID policies: Reduced hours, increased cleaning routines, social distancing signage, employee facemasks.

Kohl’s Reopening

Has Kohl’s reopened? Kohl’s reopened in Arkansas, Oklahoma, South Carolina, and Utah on May 4, and in Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Georgia, Idaho, Mississippi, Montana, Texas, Florida, and Tennessee on May 11. More announcements to come.

New COVID policies: Reduced hours, dedicated shopping hours for at-risk individuals, signage to encourage social distancing, limiting entrances and occupancy, sanitizing carts, wider aisles, increased cleaning throughout the store, protective barriers at registers, new touchless payment options, checkout lanes being cleaned after every customer, closed fitting rooms.

Kohl’s is now accepting Kohl’s Cash from earlier this month, and has shown to be flexible with older Kohl’s Cash. We talk all about what post-COVID Kohl’s is looking like.

 

 

JCPenney Reopening

Has JCPenney reopened? JCPenney has reopened 16 stores (out of 850), and 115 more store openings are going to be announced within the week.

New COVID policies: Adjusted store hours to allow time for cleaning, limited number of in-store customers, return time frame extended by 30 days, reward window extended 60 days.

We’re constantly seeing JCPenney online deals — like BOGO 50% off Nike slides.

 

Macy’s Reopening

Has Macy’s reopened? Macy’s has opened 68 locations and plans to get all 750 locations open by mid-June.

New COVID policies: Plexiglass at checkout areas, social distancing signage, employee facemasks and wellness checks, suspension of ear-piercing and alterations, and customers will not be able to try on certain garments.

Macy’s Memorial Day Sale is currently going, offering 25 – 60% off storewide; coupon code MEMDAY takes extra 20% off.

 

Old Navy Reopening

Has Old Navy reopened? Around 400 stores in 19 states have reopened so far with a storewide sale that includes 40% off clearance. Old Navy, Banana Republic, and other Gap family stores plan to open 800 locations by the end of May.

New COVID policies: Fitting rooms closed, employee facial coverings, protective barriers, reduced hours, and increased cleanings.

Cloth face masks are available at Old Navy with free shipping.

 

Ross Reopening

Has Ross reopened? All locations in Idaho, Montana, Oklahoma, South Carolina, and Utah have opened. More stores will open this month; however, no official locations have been announced.

New COVID policies: Closed fitting rooms, suspension of merchandise holds, disinfectant wipes for shopping carts, access to sanitizer, limited hours, limiting shoppers in store and one-way shopping aisles.

Ross’s store-wide clearance markdowns make most everything at least 70% off.

 

Sephora Reopening

Has Sephora reopened? Yes. . . 70 stores in 13 states, according to a recent press release. As of May 22, locations in Alaska, Arkansas, Arizona, Alabama, Colorado, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas and Utah have reopened.

New COVID policies: A new “line coordinator” to ensure adequate social distancing while assisting customers, six-foot markers at store entrances and in front of registers, shopper capacity limits, one-way traffic in store aisles, deep cleaning and enhanced hygiene measures, no more product testers, employee face masks (and available face masks for customers) and employee wellness checks/trainings.

Sephora’s Memorial Day Sale has makeup, skincare, haircare and more for up to 50% off — in-store and online.

 

Simon Malls Reopening

Has Simon reopened their malls? Yes, 49 malls in 10 states: Alaska, Arkansas, Georgia, Indiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas.

New COVID policies: Employee health checks, social distancing signage, employee facial coverings, increased cleaning throughout the day, controlled entry/exit, limiting shopper numbers, 4 people per elevator at a time, and public seating areas reconfigurations, among other measures.

 

 

Starbucks Reopening

Has Starbucks reopened? As of May 9, more than 85% of company-operated stores were open for pickup and drive-thru orders, with more than 90% expected to be open by early June.

New COVID policies: No sit-down service, enhanced cleaning measures, employee wellness checks and facial coverings, no reusable cups allowed, closed restrooms, limited occupancy in store, social distancing signage.

 

TJMaxx Reopening

Has TJMaxx reopened? Has Marshalls reopened? Has HomeGoods reopened? TJX, the company that owns T.J. Maxx, Marshalls, and Home Goods, said on May 9 that many of their stores have reopened, though there’s no official list.

New COVID policies: Employee facial coverings, protective shields at cash registers, social distancing markers/signage, enhanced cleaning measures, and a shopper facial covering requirement.

The Big Big Big Clearance Event has more than half the inventory in the stores on sale now. TJMaxx just reopened their website for a limited number of orders per day.

 

Ulta Reopening

Has Ulta reopened? As of May 11, Ulta has opened 180 stores. Curbside pickup is now available at more than 700 stores. Ulta plans to open many more stores in the coming weeks, but will be monitoring the response to their currently opened stores for guidance.

New COVID policies: Employee facial coverings and wellness checks, no product testers, hair styling by appointment only where allowed, increased store cleanings, and limited occupancy.

The Gorgeous Hair Event is taking 50% off haircare essentials through May 30.

 

Victoria’s Secret Reopening

Has Victoria’s Secret reopened? No. Parent company L Brands isn’t planning to welcome employees back before June 1, and the company’s CEO said that stores will be up and running before the end of July. There’s no official reopening date released at this time.

New COVID policies: Nothing shared yet, but when they are shared, they’ll be on the L Brands COVID-19 page.

World Market Reopening

Has World Market reopened? Cost Plus World Market is only open for delivery and curbside pickup during reduced business hours, noon to 6 pm.

New COVID policies: World Market will not accept returns to their stores until they are fully reopened and operational. World Market will accept returns up to 120 days after their stores reopen.

World Market is trying to offload spring merchandise with a storewide 40% off clearance sale online.
