A month’s supply of diapers is an estimated cost of $76/month — here’s how to save on that.

BabyCenter has a “new baby calculator” that helps expectant parents calculate their baby’s monthly expenses in advance. Keep in mind, while most babies today use diapers until they are fully potty-trained at around age four. Every child and situation is unique, so your diaper needs will vary. However, to give you an idea of what to expect here are the figures from the BabyCenter calculator. A month’s supply of disposable diapers is estimated to cost $80/month (around $0.28 for 288 diapers per month), a cloth diaper service $117/month, and washing cloth diapers at home $66/month. Wipes are estimated to cost $20/month.

  • Disposable diapers + wipes: $76 + $20 = $96/month x 12 months = $1,152/year
  • Four years of diapers + wipes: $1,152 x 4 years = $4,608

Finding companies that offer free diapers and wipes is almost impossible. That’s why we put together this list of ideas and resources to at least help you cut these costs by a little — or a lot!

1. How to get free diapers: Hold a diaper raffle at your baby shower.

Holding a diaper raffle is an easy way to get free diapers. Simply ask your guests to bring a pack of diapers to the baby shower if they’d like to participate in the drawing. Have each guest who brought diapers write their name on a small slip of paper and place it in the designated container. Draw a random winner from the name slips for a prize, like a $10 Target gift card or Amazon gift card.

TIP: If you end up with a ton of the same size diapers for your baby shower raffle, don’t sweat it! Target will allow you to trade any unopened boxes of diapers for the size you need. And, you don’t need a receipt or proof of where you bought them.
