Chick-fil-A is known for their mega-popular chicken sandwiches, but now they’re taking a step in a different direction with their latest addition — the Cauliflower Sandwich.

The new menu item is being tested in the midst of growing demand for plant-based options. Following the lead of the Impossible Whopper, the Chick-fil-A Cauliflower Sandwich will make not just the mascot cows happy, but the chickens, too.

So what’s the story with this new seemingly vegan-friendly menu option? Where is it being served? We’ll tell you what we know.

And hey, since you’re here, you’ll probably be interested in saving money at Chick-fil-A six days a week.

The Chick-fil-A Cauliflower Sandwich is prepared similarly to the Original Chicken Sandwich.

Chick-fil-a cauliflower sandwich at Peace Haven franchise.

The Cauliflower Sandwich is made with a tender filet cut from a whole cauliflower, marinated and seasoned with Chick-fil-A’s signature spices, pressure-cooked for texture, and served on a toasted buttery bun with two dill pickle chips.

Chick-fil-A says the preparation process is similar to that of the original Chicken Sandwich, although they’ve designed it to highlight, rather than hide, the cauliflower taste.

Price: Although menu prices vary, expect to pay about $6.59 per Cauliflower Sandwich.

Chick-fil-A Cauliflower Sandwiches are rolling out to three metro areas starting Feb. 13.

Chick-fil-A will begin testing customer response to the new Cauliflower Sandwich in three markets starting Monday, Feb. 13, 2023. If you’re in Denver, Charleston, S.C., or North Carolina’s Greensboro-Triad, the sandwich will be available at your local Chick-fil-As. (And you could order it alongside some Chick-fil-A heart-shaped trays.)

If the sandwich proves to be a hit, look for Chick-fil-A to expand it to other cities within six to 12 months. And then might cauliflower nuggets follow?

It’s not vegetarian or gluten-free.

Chick-fil-A’s “plant-forward” Cauliflower Sandwich isn’t vegan — it’s made of cauliflower, pickles, bread, milk, and eggs — but it’s not vegetarian, either, as it’s prepared in the same kitchen as all of their chicken items. (Despite strict food safety measures, there are no designated vegetarian/vegan areas.)

Gluten-free buns are available, but if you don’t ask for them, you’ll get a regular bun that contains gluten.

Chick-fil-A says they want the Cauliflower Sandwich to taste like cauliflower.

A USA Today journalist who tried Chick-fil-A’s Cauliflower Sandwich said that although the new menu item looks like its chicken-based cousin, it doesn’t taste anything like it. Chick-fil-A said that in early testing, people “absolutely fell in love” with the sandwich, even though it’s a completely different experience from eating Chick-fil-A chicken.

The journalist said the flavors of the breading and marinade were enjoyable and the sandwich didn’t need extra sauce. Despite being made with previously frozen cauliflower, it was described as being crunchy, not soggy.

But if you’re looking for this sandwich to do a great impression of the Original Chicken Sandwich, you could be disappointed.
