And if you love saving and apps, then you should totally download the KCL app, too!

Uber Eats will start accepting SNAP and EBT in 2024.

Uber Eats recently announced they will start accepting SNAP and EBT benefits to pay for fresh groceries through the Uber Eats app. Although Uber Eats has yet to share a specific start date, we’ll update our information here. Word is they’re also working on getting approval to accept FSA and Flex cards in the future.

1. My promo code gives new Uber Eats customers $20 off — but make sure you use it on your FIRST order.

So if you’ve never used Uber Eats before, here’s what you do:

  • Sign up for a free Uber Eats account.
  • Put in the promo code EATS-JOANIED156UI in the Account/Promotions section in the app.
  • Use the “$20 off your first $25 order” credit.

2. Or use promo code NEW23EATS for $25 off your first two Uber Eats orders.

This only works for first-time customers, but if someone in your house doesn’t have an account, get ’em to sign up and you can take advantage of another new-user promo coupon.

3. Get Uber Eats free delivery for a month when you sign up for the Uber One trial.

Uber One (formerly known as Uber Eats Pass) is a subscription service that’ll get you Uber Eats free delivery on restaurant orders of $15 or more or grocery orders of $30 or more. It’ll also discount most of your restaurant orders and Uber rides by 5%.

Uber One costs $9.99/month or $99.99/year, but they offer a free 30-day trial to let you try out the service.

TIP: DoorDash has a similar kind of subscription called the DashPass, which offers free delivery on orders of $12 or more. DashPass costs $9.99/month and has a 30-day free trial. If you’re looking for more ways to save on DoorDash, we know all the ways to get DoorDash coupons and how to use them.

4. The Uber One subscription is only worth it if you order Uber Eats at least twice a month.

You’d normally pay $4 – $8 for Uber Eats delivery (depending on your location), so if you order twice in a month, your Uber One subscription will pay for itself.

TIP: You can cancel your Uber One subscription anytime by going into the “Uber One subscription” page on your account settings. If you cancel your trial before it’s over, you’ll lose access to Uber One right away; if you cancel in the middle of a billing cycle, your subscription will run until the end of the billing period.

5. Get 5% off Uber Eats gift cards when you buy them with Target RedCard.

The Target RedCard is a branded debit card that connects to your checking account, and when you use it at Target and Target.com, you’ll get 5% off your purchases. That includes Uber Eats gift cards. This is just one of the many benefits of having a Target RedCard.

If you don’t have (or don’t want) a Target RedCard, you can get a 2% discount on Uber Eats gift cards when you order from discount gift card seller Raise.com.

TIP: You can use Uber, Uber Eats, and Postmates gift cards interchangeably.

6. Uber Eats has a cheaper delivery fee than Postmates.

In 2021 Uber Eats purchased Postmates. However, you can still order food through the Postmates website. Prices, restaurants, and delivery times remain the same for both delivery services, but Uber Eats will typically have a cheaper delivery fee.

The deals will also differ for both apps, even though Uber Eats has many more than Postmates. Check both to see if you’re getting the best deal.

7. Verizon Up Rewards often give Uber gift cards.

If you’re a member of the Verizon Up Rewards, you’ll often see Uber gift cards you can redeem for your monthly reward. All you need to do to get these rewards is have a Verizon phone plan and join on the Verizon app.

8. Use the Uber Eats referral program to get you and your friends a $15 Uber Eats coupon.

In the Account section of the app, click the “Invite Friends” link. You’ll then find a special referral code that you can pass along to someone else. When they sign up, they get $15 off their first order of $20 or more, and you get an additional $15 off a minimum purchase of $20.

You’re limited to 10 referrals per account, so that’s like getting $150 of free Uber Eats. Not a bad deal.

9. Make Uber Eats promo codes more valuable by using pickup instead of delivery.

An easy way to skip the Uber Eats delivery fee is to choose pickup instead of delivery. That way, you can still use the Uber Eats promo codes and coupons, like $5 off a $20 purchase, on your order without having to pay for delivery fees. Make your coupons go farther.

You’ll be paying around 24% – 45% more due to the Uber Eats upcharge. If the Uber Eats coupon doesn’t cover the difference in cost when ordering directly from the restaurant, you’re better off purchasing from the restaurant app or website.

TIP: You can order convenience store items like toilet paper, bandages, and over-the-counter medication when you limit your search to “Convenience” in Uber Eats.

10. Use the Uber Eats deals page to never pay delivery fees.

You don’t have to have Uber One to get free Uber Eats delivery.

When you’re scrolling through your Uber Eats app, you should always be on the lookout for the “$0 Delivery Fee” deal at restaurants. When you click on the restaurant and fulfill the requirement (usually $10 minimum purchase), you’ll get your delivery fee waived.

11. Find coupons for free food, or $5 off $20 orders on the rotating Deals page.

Uber Eats has an entire section dedicated to daily deals. You just need to switch the “Deals” toggle on when you’re searching for restaurants. Here are some of the offers we got on the same day:

  • Spend $20 and save $5 at Tropical Smoothie Cafe
  • Get a free food item when you spend $25 at Popeyes
  • Spend $15 and save $3 at Noodles & Company

These restaurant offers rotate every day and include local restaurants, so you can order something different and save.

12. Uber Eats gives coupons for certain holidays and events.

It’s rare, but to celebrate holidays, Uber Eats gives special promo codes for you to use on your order. For example, on Valentine’s Day you could use VDAY50OFF to get a 50% discount on your Starbucks order through Uber Eats. I also saw a 15% off promo code for Super Bowl Sunday (new customers only).

We’ll let you know as soon as a promo code drops at any restaurant with our food promo codes list.

13. If something goes wrong with your Uber Eats order, expect only a partial refund.

We get it. Sometimes your order is wrong or you were missing an item. But Uber Eats will sometimes give you Uber Cash credit that you can use on your account if either of those things happens. Here’s what you need to do to get that credit:

  1. Click on the “previous orders” icon at the bottom of the app.
  2. Select which order needs a refund.
  3. Rate your experience and driver.
  4. Explain what went wrong with your delivery and add any extra comments.

In my experience, Uber Eats customer service isn’t super receptive — not like DoorDash’s — so expect a partial refund, not a full refund.

14. No matter what, you can’t escape taxes or service fees.

Two phones, one displaying an Uber Eats checkout screen with the total including fees, and the other displaying the order receipt

I placed an order for $31.76 worth of food at a local Mediterranean restaurant, and although an Uber Eats Pass promo took $30 off the total, I still had to pay $1.91 in sales tax (which varies by state, of course) and Uber Eats’ 15% service fee (which is universal).

Delivery was free — because I had the Eats Pass — and after a 10% tip, I still ended up paying $10.73 in fees out of pocket. But still: less than $11 for $40 worth of food — delivered? OH YES.

15. There’s no Uber Eats student discount.

Nope, there’s no Uber Eats student discount. You can find Uber Eats promo codes like $20 off a $40 order for new users that’s only accessible for students if they have a UNiDAYS account, but there are no ongoing college student deals.

We do know all the best college student discounts and freebies that you can get with your student ID. College students can link their meal plan with Grubhub if your university is participating in the program.

TIP: Uber Eats doesn’t offer military, senior, or teacher discounts. But we know all the best military discounts, senior discounts, and teacher discounts that you should be using.

16. If your state allows it, you can order alcohol from Uber Eats — just show your ID to the delivery driver.

You can order alcohol from Uber Eats, but you’ll need to show your driver’s license or passport that confirms that you’re 21+ to your driver before the driver can hand the alcohol to you.

If you cancel your order at any time, you’ll have to pay a $15 restocking fee.

(Alcohol ordering/delivery isn’t allowed in Alabama, Delaware, Kentucky, Mississippi, Rhode Island, and Utah.)

17. Order delivery from your favorite restaurants in New York, L.A., Miami & San Francisco.

Although Uber Eats is almost entirely geared toward ordering from local restaurants, they’ve recently let customers around the country place orders for food from these select restaurants in New York, L.A., Miami, and San Francisco. It’ll take about five to seven days to get your order, and there isn’t any additional fee for ordering nationwide delivery. DoorDash and GoldBelly both have a larger variety of restaurants you can purchase from, while Uber Eats only has these select stores offering nationwide delivery:
