Target Back-to-School is an annual multi-month sale with the best possible discounts on school supplies.

Whether you need backpacks, notebooks, glue, markers, or anything else to get through the school year, Target offers some of the lowest prices of the year on these items — which only get better when paired with Circle offers, Ibotta rebates, and more.

The Target Back-to-School Sale started June 15, 2025.

The Target Back-to-School sale began on June 15, 2025. Additional sales will begin on July 6 with Target Circle Week. Expect new offers every week leading up to the start of school in August and September.

Select Target back-to-school items are staying at 2024 prices.

Target’s holding prices steady on some of the most popular school supply basics. Here’s a look at 20 items that’ll cost the same in 2025 as they did in 2024.

7 Tips for Saving at the Target Back-to-School Sale in 2025

1. Use KCL's Back-to-School Stock-Up Price List to see if you're getting a good deal.

Even though Target’s school supplies look like deals, not everything under $1 is worth grabbing. Use KCL’s School Supplies Stock-Up Price List to know whether that $2 binder is actually a good deal, or if you’re better off waiting. There’s even a printable version you can bring in-store.

KCL TIP: Circle offers don’t always mean it’s the lowest price; double-check the list first.

2. Stack Circle offers with manufacturer coupons for double savings.

Target's one of the best stores for coupon stacking. That means you can use a manufacturer coupon and a Target Circle offer on the same item — which can make school supplies dirt cheap.

The Target coupon policy lets you use up to four identical manufacturer coupons per day, as long as they have a scannable barcode and match up to their verified list of coupons. You can even stack one Target category coupon, one Target item coupon, and one manufacturer coupon on a single item.

You’ll usually see Target Circle deals like “20% off select school supplies” in late July. Stack that with brand coupons for Bic, Crayola, or Scotch to drop your price even more.

3. Use Ibotta and Fetch for cash back on school supplies at Target.

Both Ibotta and Fetch Rewards offer rebates that are available on Target back-to-school buys. If you’re shopping in-store, just scan your receipt after checkout. For online orders, you’ll want to make sure the e-mail you use for Target is linked so you don’t miss any cash back.

We’ve seen rebates for items like Five Star folders, Elmer’s glue, and Up & Up hand sanitizer — sometimes making them totally free after cash back.

4. Use the Target app to scan items and check for Circle offers in real time.

If you’re shopping in-store, pull up the Target app (iOS / Android) and tap the barcode scanner in the search bar. Scan any item to check for hidden Circle offers that may not be marked on the shelf.

This is also a great way to compare in-store prices with Target.com.

5. Ask for a price match if the item is cheaper on Target.com.

Target price matches their own website. So if you scan something in the Target app and see it’s cheaper online, just show the cashier and ask for a price match. You’ll still be able to stack a Circle offer on top too.

Just make sure:

  • The item matches exactly (brand, size, color, etc.).

  • It’s sold and shipped by Target and not a third party.

6. Shop online for same-day pickup or delivery to skip the crowds.

If you’re not in the mood to fight for the last 24-pack of Crayola crayons in-store, shop online and use Target’s free same-day pickup or Drive Up. You’ll still be able to clip Circle offers and earn cash back through Ibotta or Fetch (just make sure your account is linked).

If you're a Target Circle 360 member, you can get free same-day delivery at Target with no price markups.

7. Find the items you need for your specific school with Target’s “School Supplies List Assist.”

Target has a nifty little tool to help you find exactly what you need for the upcoming school year. Instead of putting out a general list of common items (like, duh we need pencils), Target’s School Supplies List Assist helps you find specific lists from the schools in your city. All you have to do is type in your ZIP code to see if they have your schools’ lists.

8. Check the Target Dollar Spot for $0.50 back-to-school finds.

Don’t limit your deal search to the designated back-to-school aisles. The Target Dollar Spot is a great place to check for cheap school supplies among the other $1 knick-knacks and novelty items.

We’ve seen assorted flashcards, preschool workbooks, erasers, pencil grips, and small storage accessories for as low as $0.50. I even found a First Day of School Chalkboard for just $1.50 last year.

When you head into the store, stop by the Target Dollar Spot first to check for cheap school supplies, then head over to the larger back-to-school section.
