Looking for Walmart Deals for Days? You came to the right place. However, Walmart changed the name of their October 2023 event to the “Walmart Deals Holiday Kickoff.”

This was Walmart’s answer to Amazon’s Prime Big Deal Days event, which ran from October 10 – 11. October. Walmart’s sale started on Monday, Oct. 9 at 12 p.m. ET, with deals running through Oct. 12.

Walmart’s Holiday Kickoff deals brought in savings of up to 60% (and sometimes more) on tech, toys, vacuums, apparel, and more. One of the hottest deals was the Apple Watch for 50% off. And just as we expected, some Walmart deals were better than Amazon’s.

As you prep for the next Walmart vs. Amazon battle for the best deals, check out these highlights from Walmart’s October Holiday Kickoff Sale and which items were worth grabbing.

Walmart Deals Holiday Kickoff is an annual, 4-day sale with some of the year’s best prices across departments.

The Walmart Deals Holiday Kickoff is the official start to the holiday shopping season — coinciding with Amazon’s fall Prime sale. Unlike Amazon, though, Walmart doesn’t limit this sale to just Walmart Plus members. During the Kickoff sale, Walmart has massive discounts throughout the store, giving shoppers some of the year’s best prices on electronics, home goods, fashion, toys, and beauty products.

KCL predicts the next Walmart Deals Holiday Kickoff will begin Monday, Oct. 7, 2024.

Walmart-Holiday-Kickoff

Walmart hasn’t officially announced the next date for their Deals Holiday Kickoff, but based on what they've done in recent years, we here at KCL predict that it’ll take place between Monday, Oct. 7, and Thursday, Oct. 10, 2024.

How do we make our prediction?

For the last several years, Walmart has had a sale that has surrounded Amazon’s fall Prime Day sale — starting one day before and ending one day later. Given that we predict Amazon to have their “Prime Big Deal Days” sale on the second Tuesday and Wednesday in October (Oct. 8 and 9), we anticipate Walmart will once again start their Deals Holiday Kickoff sale on Monday, Oct. 7, and end on Thursday, Oct. 10.

During the October Holiday Kickoff Sale, Walmart beat Amazon Prime Day with these deals:

LEGO Classic 90 Years of Play Set

Walmart beat Amazon with a $19.97 sale price on this LEGO Classic play set. You’d pay at least $20 more on Amazon for the same play set during Prime Day.

HP Stream 14″ Laptop

This HP laptop was on sale for just $200 at Walmart, but Amazon had it for full price ($229.99) at that same time.

Barbie Doll Careers 6-Pack

This Barbie doll 6-pack was just $20 (reg. $35) at Walmart during Prime Day, and it was a HOT deal. Not to mention, Amazon had the Barbie career collection for $49.99. You’d save about $30 with the Walmart deal!

Pokemon Trading Card Game Holiday Calendar 2023

Walmart had this super popular Pokemon advent calendar on sale for $39.99 — $10 less than the Amazon Prime Day price!

Dyson V8 Origin+ Cordless Vacuum

The Dyson V8 Origin+ vacuum dropped to $249.99 at Walmart — 40% off its regular price. Amazon had the same vacuum for $120 more than Walmart’s price during their Prime Day sale.

Shark StainStriker Carpet Cleaner

Amazon and Walmart are competitive with Prime Day vacuum sales, but Walmart took the win for this Shark Carpet Cleaner in October 2023. The Walmart deal saved you $25 compared to the Amazon price!

It’s a 10 Miracle Leave-In Conditioner

This leave-in conditioner is a hair care bestseller, and Walmart had it for just $21 (reg. $40) during their October sale. Amazon had a few buying options for the same size bottle, but the lowest price was about $7 more than Walmart’s deal.

KidKraft Play Kitchen

Walmart beat Amazon by $11 with this KidKraft Play Kitchen — it was $99 at Walmart vs. $109.99 on Amazon!

Ryan’s World Clogs

These Ryan’s World Clogs were a third of the price at Walmart during Amazon Prime Day. Walmart had them for just $11 compared to the $32 Amazon price.

Bissell Little Green Carpet Cleaner

Walmart originally had this bestselling Bissell carpet cleaner on sale for $89, but when Amazon matched the price, they dropped it even lower to $85.

The Walmart Deals Holiday Kickoff officially started at 12 p.m. ET on Monday, October 9, 2023. The sale lasted four days and ended on Thursday, October 12, at 7 p.m. ET.

Walmart usually runs a sale like this twice a year — in July and October. As long as Amazon Prime Day is happening, you can expect Walmart to roll out deals, too.

The Walmart “Deals for Days” event in July, which was newly named “Walmart Plus Week,” ran alongside the famous Prime Day sale. The Walmart deals kicked off early for Walmart Plus members on July 10, then opened to all shoppers on July 11. They lasted through July 13 at 7 p.m. ET.

2. Shop Walmart Holiday Kickoff deals online and in the app.

Walmart didn’t offer deals in stores for the October Holiday Kickoff. Instead, you could shop the Walmart event on Walmart.com or in the Walmart app.

Even though the sale was online-only, you could still grab your order at the store with Walmart pickup. You also had same-day Walmart delivery in 90 minutes or less, plus late-night Express Delivery until 10 p.m.

3. Compare Walmart sale prices to Amazon Prime Day prices on top brands.

Walmart and Amazon typically have overlapping (or super similar) deals for their respective sales. During Prime Day, both retailers knuckle down to beat the other with the best prices. While some items are within cents of one another, others have a clear price winner.

4. Save up to 60% on top tech during the Walmart Holiday Kickoff event.

The Walmart tech deals were big in October 2023. Walmart dropped discounts on smart TVs, headphones, laptops, streaming devices, and select Apple products for the Holiday Kickoff event.

Top Deal: Apple Watch SE

Walmart dropped a 55% – 60% discount on the Apple Watch SE for the last Walmart Holiday Kickoff event. These were the best prices we saw since Black Friday 2022.

5. Look for half-priced toys and grab them before they’re gone.

50% off toy brands like Barbie, Polly Pocket, Hot Wheels, and LEGO is impressive. And that’s what we saw on Walmart.com for their October Prime Day sale.

One of the best toy deals was the Barbie Dolls Career 6-Pack for $20 (reg. $35) — 43% off the regular price.

6. Skip the iPad deals in October and wait for better Black Friday prices.

Both the 9th generation (2021) and 10th generation (2022) Apple iPads were 11% off for the Walmart Deals Holiday Kickoff. But we’d seen better deals further along in the holiday season, especially on older iPad models.

The most recent iPad releases rarely see discounts over 10% for Black Friday. But if you’re buying an iPad from the previous year, Black Friday deals can save you up to 20%.

Walmart Black Friday iPad Prices 2022

  • 10.2-Inch Apple iPad (2021, 9th Gen) 64 GB — $269.99 (reg. $329)

  • 10.9-Inch Apple iPad (2022, 10th Gen) 64 GB — $419 (reg. $449)

7. Unlike other sales, Walmart Plus members didn’t get early access to the Walmart Deals Holiday Kickoff.

Being a Walmart Plus member pays off for sales like Walmart Plus Week or Walmart Black Friday. Only Walmart Plus members get early, 24-hour access to these sales.

But for the Walmart Deals Holiday Kickoff in October 2023, Walmart Plus members didn’t get to shop the deals before everyone else. The sale opened to all shoppers at the same time on Monday night.

8. Spend at least $35 for free two-day shipping on Walmart.com orders.

That’s no different than the rest of the year but is definitely useful if you’re planning on leaving the event with a big haul.

If you’re shopping for Walmart deals online, keep in mind the $35 free shipping minimum. If you’re a Walmart Plus member, you get free shipping with no order minimum all the time.

9. Walmart won’t price match Amazon Prime Day, but prices are usually neck and neck.

According to Walmart’s customer service, Walmart doesn’t match Amazon prices for Prime Day deals.

However, for their most competitive sales, Walmart naturally aims to match or beat Amazon’s prices on the hottest items. So, you’ll probably find comparable price match-ups without ever having to ask.

10. Take your time with Walmart returns — their extended holiday return policy starts in early October.

Normally, the Walmart return policy gives you a standard 90-day window to make returns. But Walmart extends their return policy for the holiday season, which is already in effect by the time their October sale starts.

With the extended policy, you can return most items — including those from Marketplace sellers on Walmart.com — through January 31.

Check the Walmart item’s online listing to see if it’s covered by the extended return policy. If it is, you’ll see “Free Holiday returns until Jan. 31” in the product details.
