Using a grocery coupon app is the key to saving big on groceries, whether you do your shopping at Kroger, Walmart, or even Dollar General. The mobile apps for these grocery stores contain all sorts of manufacturer coupons, promo codes, and even store-specific offers that you won’t find anywhere else.
In this post, I’ll show you how you can get coupons and deals right on your smartphone, then apply them to your mobile shopping cart or in-store purchase. Some stores on this list allow you to stack multiple offers, while others won’t. But they all have apps with valuable coupons that make them worth a download. Here’s a look at what you can expect from each grocery coupon app.
Another app you need to download? The Krazy Coupon Lady app! It’s packed with more money-saving tips, deals, and coupons.
1. Get personalized savings with the Kroger grocery coupon app.
The Kroger grocery coupon app (iOS / Android) is awesome for ordering curbside pickup or grocery delivery. The app is also where you’ll find their personalized “Best-Customer Bonus” coupons (aka Kroger store coupons) that you can use on top of their sale prices.
Even though Kroger doesn’t allow coupon stacking, they do release a digital offer in their app for a totally free product about once every other Friday. You only have one day to download the offer, but once it’s in your account, it won’t expire for two weeks.
Here are some of the best Kroger store coupons I’ve seen in my Kroger app recently:
$1.50/1 Philadelphia Soft Cream Cheese, 7 – 8 ounces
$2/1 Private Selection Frozen Beef Patties, 24 – 32 ounces any variety
$1/4 Knorr Sides
$2/4 Chobani Yogurt or Flip Greek Yogurt, 5.3 ounces

2. Find BOGO deals and promo codes in the Safeway or Albertsons grocery coupon app.
I lump the grocery coupon apps for Safeway and Albertsons together because they’re owned by the same company — and their apps are pretty much identical. Once you sign in, these apps will give you personalized deals and coupons based on your order history.
If you want to preview the deals, you can find these digital coupons online at Safeway.com or Albertsons.com. But certain offers — like promo codes and a special deals page — can only be found inside the app.
Here’s an example of a recent BOGO deal I found:
SAVE20 will get you $20 off $75+ — plus a waived delivery fee (exact fee varies) if you decide to go that route instead of pickup.

3. Get Circle offers with the Target app.
The Target app is more than just a grocery coupon app — it’s where you’ll find their generous in-app savings called “Target Circle” coupons. One of the best things about Target Circle offers is that you can stack them with manufacturer coupons.
When you make any purchases through the Target app, you’ll automatically get any available Circle deals applied. And if you link the app to your Target Circle Card, you’ll earn 5% on every purchase.
To give you an idea of the savings, Target recently ran an offer for a free $10 Target gift card when you bought three laundry detergents or fabric softeners, plus you’d get three $2 off coupons for Tide Pods, Gain, and Downy in the Circle app (valid in store only). Here’s how it all broke down:

4. Stack and save in-app grocery coupons for Dollar General.
The Dollar General app (iOS / Android) has a weekly “$5 off a $25 purchase” coupon that you can use every Saturday (and only on that Saturday). The DG app also has digital manufacturer coupons you can clip, but these aren’t exclusive to their app.
Per the Dollar General coupon policy, you stack a manufacturer coupon with a DG store coupon, as long as neither says it can’t be combined with other coupons. Any overage gets applied to the balance of your transaction. Here’s an example of how to stack coupons at DG using their app:

5. Family Dollar app coupons will let you save in the store.
Family Dollar releases generous store coupons in their Smart Coupons app (iOS / Android), and when you first sign up, they’ll give you a special welcome coupon (mine was $5 off a $25+ purchase).
While their in-app store coupons are a major plus, you can’t shop or even view product prices in the Family Dollar app. It’s kind of odd that they haven’t connected the technical dots to make that happen. But it’s still worth a download for the coupon savings.
You can stack one Family Dollar store coupon (digital or paper) with one manufacturer coupon on any regular-priced, sale-priced, or clearance item in a transaction. Family Dollar doesn’t accept coupons that are worth more than the retail price of the item, per their coupon policy.

6. Earn 5% cash back and promo codes with the Walmart app.
We all know Walmart is stingy with coupons, period. And while the Walmart app isn’t technically a grocery coupon app (it won’t give you any special store-wide coupons), it does have some features that make shopping and saving there easier.
The price scanner is my favorite tool for finding hidden Walmart clearance, and it’s available through the Walmart app without a Plus membership. Grocery delivery and pickup are in there, too.

7. Save 60% or more with coupons in the CVS app.
The CVS app has a ton of promos and coupons you’d miss out on if you didn’t have it. And it’s easy to see all your savings in one place when you connect your ExtraCare account. As an added bonus, CVS will allow you to stack multiple manufacturer coupons, CVS coupons, and offers on sale items.

8. Stack everything to save money on groceries and essentials with the Walgreens app.
Walgreens offers manufacturer coupons in the Walgreens app that I haven’t been able to find anywhere else. Just like CVS, Walgreens allows stacking with manufacturer coupons, store offers, and reward points.
