When we talk about a Black Friday price match, we mean one of two things. The term can refer to a price adjustment where you buy something and then it goes on sale. In this case, the retailer may give you the difference between what you paid and the new, lower price. Or the term “price match” can mean a retailer that will literally price match a competitor. Like if you’re at Target and you find that Amazon offers a lower price on your item, Target will give you Amazon’s price right on the spot.
During Black Friday sales, price matching is generally a no-go. Stores that offer price adjustments and price match competitors during the rest of the year tend to suspend their policies during this time. Makes sense — imagine if you could buy an item before a Black Friday sale when inventory is good, then turn around and request the sale price days later when Black Friday deals hit. Or imagine you don’t have to visit all the stores on your list in order to get their deals. What if you could get them all at one or two stores?
Oh, but you can. Most people don’t realize that there are a handful of retailers who will — in some way — offer price matching during Black Friday.

Target’s Black Friday Price Match Policy
The Target price match guarantee during Black Friday is one of the best in the business. It promises you can get a Target price match for just over two months! If you buy anything from Oct. 22 all the way until Christmas Eve (Dec. 24), you can get the difference if it goes on sale. Just show your receipt at customer service or call 1 (800) 591-3869 for online price matching.
So go ahead and do your holiday shopping as early as the last week of October. If your items go on sale on Christmas Eve, you can still get the difference back!
Does Target match Black Friday deals?
Yes, in addition to being able to get the difference refunded for your purchases if they go on sale during the holidays, Target will price match any of these select competitors for 14 days, even when Target’s Black Friday sales are live:

JCPenney’s Black Friday Price Match Policy
JCPenney doesn’t have any “blackout dates,” or days where you can’t price match. This means you can request a match 365 days of the year. So go ahead and shop just days before the JCPenney Black Friday sale starts on Nov. 17 in order to take advantage of good inventory. If your items get marked down for Black Friday, just bring your receipt in to request the difference within 14 days of your purchase.
Does JCPenney Price Match Black Friday deals?
You bet. JCPenney will give you a competitor’s Black Friday price on any qualifying item that’s in stock. This is where it can get a bit hairy, though. The language in JCPenney’s price match policy lists a few exclusions:
“We do not match the following types of pricing: A competitor’s free, special, or bundled offers, rebates, discontinued, clearance, liquidation, or closeout prices. A competitor’s prices on open box, display merchandise, outlet, or used merchandise.”
So it largely depends on how the competitor categorizes their Black Friday deals and what language they use. It’s likely a Walmart “Special Buy” won’t qualify, but maybe a general Black Friday sale price would, for example. Bring the original competitor ad into your JCPenney store as proof of the lower price. An ad or a mobile screen should work as long as a JCPenney associate can verify it.
Best Buy’s Black Friday Price Match Policy
The Best Buy Holiday Price Match Guarantee covers the items you purchase at Best Buy between Oct. 27 – Dec. 30, which can be price-matched all the way until Jan. 13. But they won’t match competitors’ “Black Friday” prices from the Friday before Thanksgiving (Nov. 17) until the Monday after (Nov. 27). They also exclude certain items like cell phones and holiday decorations.
So shop away at those Best Buy Black Friday deals, but just know that there’s a blackout window for Best Buy’s price match guarantee.
Does Best Buy Price Match Black Friday deals?
No. Unfortunately, Best Buy’s Black Friday price guarantee only covers items you buy at the retailer that later go on sale at Best Buy.
Dick’s Sporting Goods’ Black Friday Price Match Policy
Dick’s Sporting Goods price match policy doesn’t say that you can’t request a price match during Black Friday. I get that this doesn’t automatically mean that you can request one, but it certainly means you could make a good case for it.
If your item goes on sale after you bought it, you have 14 days to bring in your receipt and request the difference be refunded, even during Dick’s Sporting Goods’ Black Friday sale.
Does Dick’s Sporting Goods price match Black Friday deals?
Again, the policy doesn’t forbid it. However, there are some exclusions that Dick’s Sporting Goods could lean on in order to turn down your request that they give you a competitor’s price. Here’s what their price match policy doesn’t cover:
“BOGO (Buy One, Get One) promotions, flash sales, custom products, backorders and out-of-stock products, storewide, site-wide, and category-wide promotions, outlets and third party retailers, clearance products and going-out-of-business sales … “
It’s worth a shot, but realize that if Dick’s Sporting Goods determines a competitor’s Black Friday sale is “clearance” or if the price you’re trying to match is based on a storewide discount (25% off everything), you may not be successful.
BassPro Shops’ and Cabela’s Price Match Policy on Black Friday

Do Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s price match Black Friday deals?
Indeed, they do. Nothing about the Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s Black Friday price match policy indicates otherwise. In fact, if you’re a Club Member, Bass Pro and Cabela’s will beat the competitor’s price by 5%. Just bring the competitor’s listed price online or in ad form.
There are a few exclusions, like they won’t match promotions that offer a free item with a purchase, or clearance, wholesale, and bundled offers. But a Black Friday sale at a qualifying competitor? Game on.
Macy’s Black Friday price match policy
Macy’s will give you a price match if something you bought goes on sale within 10 days of your purchase. Even if that falls during Macy’s Black Friday sale. Just bring your receipt into the store to request the difference or chat with Macy’s customer service online.
One thing to note: you can’t request a price adjustment if you used coupons to make the original purchase. Only if you paid full price to begin with.
Does Macy’s price match Black Friday deals?
No, I’m sad to report that Macy’s doesn’t price-match competitors at all.
Does Amazon price match on Black Friday?
Again, no. Nothing but bad news where Amazon and price matching is concerned. The retailer quit offering price matching years and years ago, so they certainly don’t offer it on Black Friday.
