1. Wedding dresses
Although the month that you shop for your wedding dress largely depends on the month of your wedding, you may want to consider moving the dress shopping date up to December! Since many couples put off wedding expenses until after the holidays, many stores offer their most enticing promos (such as markdowns as high as 50%) to get brides-to-be in the door now. If you have a wedding coming up in 2014, consider shopping for that dress this month before prices begin to climb back up.
2. Golf clubs
With snow, freezing rain and temperatures often under 40 degrees, December isn’t exactly the best month for a round of golf. Without a whole lot of business coming through the door for these items, retailers try to drum up sales with markdowns and promos during December. Recently, Dick’s Sporting Goods has offered select drivers and putters $100 off, and Golf Galaxy has offered select clubs for as much as $200 off! If you or a family member plays, this is a great month to grab some gifts or equipment for yourself. If your budget is a bit too tight to purchase the higher-priced items, consider grabbing items such as gloves, balls and accessories to stuff in that golf-enthusiast’s stocking!
Since tools are a hot holiday gift for dads, stores typically run their best promos on tools and hardware items during the month of December, which means you can nab some pretty sweet deals on items such as drills, screwdriver sets and lawn care items. Already this December, Lowe’s has advertised DeWalt drills down from $149 to $99 and The Home Depot has offered 5-piece wrench sets marked 50% off! Tool sales are typically timed with Christmas and Father’s Day, so if you don’t pick them up this month your best bet is to wait until June.
We all know that Black Friday brings some amazing electronics deals, but that day is really just the kickoff to a whole season of sales. If you didn’t feel like fighting the crowds, don’t worry—there are still plenty of great deals to be had this month. Retailers such as Target, Walmart, Radio Shack and Amazon continue to offer deep discounts, gifts with purchase and promos on electronics as they try to get every sale they can before Christmas day. If you’re unsure of where to start, try checking out Amazon’s daily deals each day and sort them by category. This way you can check out all of the electronics deals coming up for the day and plan ahead.
5. Kitchen goods
Many of us spend a lot of time in the kitchen during the holidays, so it only seems fitting that December is one of the best months to stock up on kitchen goods! Retailers such as Macy’s, Kohl’s, JCPenney and Williams-Sonoma cook up some of their best deals in anticipation of the holiday baking season. This month has already brought deals such as Rachael Ray 15-piece cookware sets marked down from $269.99 to $129.99 at Kohl’s and Pyrex sets marked down nearly 50% at Macy’s. If your bakeware is burnt or your muffin tins rusty, this is definitely the time to replace them.
