More and more retailers are expanding the holiday shopping season to reduce crowds at stores during the coronavirus pandemic, and the only way to expand the season is to go earlier.

The result? We’ve seen some incredible sales hitting more than a month before Black Friday.

Who knows what October 2021 will bring, but here’s a picture of the big-time sales that happened in October 2020:

The ‘10.10 Shopping Festival’ (Oct. 10)

One of China’s biggest shopping days of the year is 11/11, aka “Singles Day,” and ShopKick and retail research firm Coresight launched their own version of Singles Day on 10/10.

Some of the biggest retailers participating in the 10.10 Festival include:

  • Guess
  • Jos. A. Bank
  • Kroger
  • Men’s Wearhouse
  • ULTA Beauty

Walmart ‘Big Save’ event (Oct. 11-15)

With their “Big Save” event, Walmart had Amazon Prime Day completely surrounded. For five whole days — from 7PM EDT Oct. 11 through the end of Oct. 15 — the big-box store hosted an online event that discounted electronics, toys, and more up to 50%.

Just a few of the deals included:

JCPenney Cyber Days (Oct. 12-14)

JCPenney got in on the Prime Day shenanigans by offering up to 60% off clothing, toys, jewelry, bedding, small appliances, luggage and vacuum cleaners — while introducing new inventory from Lego, Mattel, Fisher-Price and Disney.

The event kicked off ongoing weekend sales with Black Friday-like pricing from now throughout the month of November.

Amazon Prime Day (Oct. 13-14)*

From midnight Pacific Time/3 AM Eastern Time on Tuesday, Oct. 13, until 11:59 PM Pacific/2:59 AM Eastern on Wednesday, Oct. 14, Amazon Prime Day marked down electronics, smart devices, and Alexa products to the lowest prices of the year. (Although they did kick off some Early Prime Day Deals at the beginning of the month.)

* Will Prime Day stay in October, or will it go back to the traditional July timeframe in 2021? No word yet.

Target Deal Days (Oct. 13-14)

Target stores and Target.com held their Deal Days event during the same time frame as Prime Day — midnight on Tuesday, Oct. 13 until 11:59 PM Wednesday, Oct. 14. Target promises “hundreds of thousands of deep discounts across Electronics, Home, Essentials, Toys, Beauty, and more.”

Best Buy Early Black Friday Sale (Oct. 13-14)

Best Buy opened up their unpublished Black Friday deals for two days only, Oct. 13 & 14.

Members of the free My Best Buy loyalty program get reimbursed if anything they buy during the sale drops in price before Black Friday (Nov. 27).

Macy’s Lowest Prices of the Season sale (Oct. 16-25)

Macy’s is super busy all October long, and the crown jewel of their October shopping season was their “Lowest Prices of the Season” sale Oct. 16-25, 2020.

Look for Black Friday-like prices across Macys.com, on items like kitchen appliances, bedding, apparel, beauty and more. They’ve had their CEO Thank You Event and the Fabulous Fall Sale earlier in the month, but Macy’s promises better prices than those.

Amazon Holiday Dash (Oct. 16-31)

Just two days after Prime Day 2020 ended, Amazon kept a steady stream of daily deals and Lightning deals going with the “Holiday Dash” sale.

We’ve seen lots of discounts on apparel, home electronics and appliances.

There were a lot of rumors of Early Black Friday deals starting Oct. 26 — the same day they kicked off in the UK — but we’re expecting the Holiday Dash promo to finish out the month before Black Friday kicks off around Nov. 1.

Amazon hasn’t announced when the Holiday Dash will end.

Macy’s 10 Days of Glam (Oct. 19-28)

Macy’s 10 Days of Glam sale runs Oct. 19-28 and features a new crop of deals on select beauty bestsellers every day. Every featured product is marked down 50%!

Bed Bath & Beyond (all October)

We’ve advised people to skip Bed Bath & Beyond for Black Friday in years past, but this year’s different. Bed Bath & Beyond just announced some sales and promotions that give shoppers an early start on Black Friday — all month long! You can expect:

  • From Oct. 4-31, customers who pay $29 to join the “Beyond+” loyalty program get a $29 bonus card — making the membership basically free. Beyond+ gets shoppers 20% off every time they shop plus free shipping.
  • From Oct. 16-Dec. 23, Bed Bath & Beyond will feature a “Gift of the Week” deal for three days only each week.
  • From Oct. 7-10, customers got $25 in reward credit when they spend $75.
  • On Prime Day, Oct. 13-14, customers got $50 in reward credit when they spent $200 online.
