1. Laptops and tablets
As the school year begins to approach, retailers start vying for students’ money by offering special promos and sales on computers and tablets. These price decreases usually begin in early July and continue into August. Last summer, Apple started their back-to-school promotion in July, which included $50-$100 iTunes gift cards with the purchase of a computer or iPad. Also in early July, stores such as Best Buy, Target and Fry’s ran deals that included gifts with purchase, and pricing as much as 30% off. If you’re in the market for a new laptop or tablet, now is the time to stay on top of those weekly sale ads.
2. Summer clothing
We all know that retailers start their seasons early. After all, how many times have you walked into a store in October only to find them completely decked out for Christmas? Because of this accelerated timeline, July is the month when most retailers start receiving their fall merchandise. And since fall is on its way in, that means summer is on its way out! In fact, July often brings deals as high as 70% off on summer apparel. Last July, we saw J.Crew and J.Crew Factory stores put the majority of their summer goods on clearance and then add an additional 60% off those already marked-down prices!
Everyone loves to cook out for the 4th of July holiday, so you would expect to see some pretty sweet grill deals leading up to it, right? Well, sort of. Although you will see sales on grills leading up to the holiday weekend, you’ll find a much better deal later in the month—if you can hold out, that is! Once the holiday weekend ends and grill sales begin to slow down, you’ll often be able to find stores marking down those grills to as much as 50% off! If you don’t mind purchasing a used grill, this is a great month to check out resale shops, as well. Many people who decide to upgrade their grill will take their old one to resale shops to make a little extra cash.
Since most people tend to gravitate towards shorts and tees during the summer months, jean sales tend to be somewhat lackluster. Because of the slow sales during the hot months, retailers tend to put denim on sale in an attempt to move them, making July one of the best times to grab yourself a new pair. In fact, this month has already brought price cuts as high as 60% on high-end denim at Off 5th, Neiman Marcus and even on Amazon. Although you may not be in any hurry to wear those jeans in this heat, you’ll be glad you grabbed them when fall rolls around.
Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day are long over, and the next big gift-giving holiday doesn’t come until Christmas. With this summer lull, retailers find other ways to lure in potential buyers—with big deals! July, which is widely considered one of the best months to buy jewelry, often brings price cuts and sales for up to 60% off—or more! Last year, retailers such as Zales and Macy’s marked down a significant amount of inventory, making it the perfect time to grab those holiday gifts early—or splurge on yourself!
