As a seasoned couponer of 2 years, I have experienced more highs than lows in the couponing arena. The sudden thrill has calmed to a slight tickle, but all in all, I remain committed to my new way of spending. That being said, I have experienced couponing fatigue at times, and it can sneak up on you unexpectedly!

I’ve listed a few things that happen to me when I know I’m couponing excessively and my life is out of balance. I hope they will help you identify symptoms of couponing burnout or fatigue before it occurs!

Couponing Fatigue Warning Sign #4: Unbalanced priorities

My husband asked me if I had bought a new dress for an event. I just looked at him and said, “No. I can’t stay out of the drugstores long enough to actually get to a department store—they’re not on my couponing route!” That rang a bell for me. Am I balancing priorities in my life, or is couponing overtaking everything else?

•    Not having gifts/cards ready for events or holidays because you’ve been too busy getting a bottle of shampoo for 25 cents
•    Getting home late more than 2 days a week because you’re couponing, leaving the spouse/kids waiting for you
•    Taking time away from your personal hobbies because you are clipping and shopping

So, to combat this imbalance, I’ve scheduled a girls’ day of shopping out of town with my best friend—no personal hygiene coupons in sight! Maybe I can find a coupon for Dress Barn…
