Retail giants, small businesses, and even third-party sellers on Amazon prepare sales for Black Friday in July, all with hopes to one-up Prime Day deals. Hundreds of retailers will participate in Black Friday in July this year, including Best Buy, Walmart and Target. All that competition will undoubtedly lead to great deals for shoppers. Black Friday in July refers to the weeks in mid-to-late July when retailers announce huge sales packed with hot deals, all meant to compete with the 48-hour Amazon Prime Day event (and all of the early Prime Day deals). Black Friday in July sales are relatively new — the term first appeared in 2012 — but it wasn't until Amazon's first Prime Day in 2015 that things really heated up with the Prime Day competition. Since 2015, Black Friday in July has become a huge group of sales happening in mid-July and often overlapping with Prime Day. Many stores have a unique name for their July event: like Walmart+ Week, Target's Circle Week in July and Kohl's Summer Cyber Deals. Other stores like JCPenney officially named their sales “Black Friday in July.”

When is Black Friday in July 2023?

Remember, Black Friday in July sales are built around Amazon Prime Day, which always happens in mid-July and is confirmed for July 11 - 12, 2023. But a few stores hold their sale a little earlier or later than Amazon’s event.

What will be on sale?

You can expect the top Black Friday in July deals to focus heavily on tech. Look for Fire TV sticks and tablets on sale, Prime Day deals on Alexa devices, Prime Day Apple deals on smart watches and Airpods, and more savings on headphones, and laptops. Black Friday in July tends to be more focused on smaller electronics. You’ll find a few Amazon Prime Day TV deals, but nothing like the volume you see in November. Household deals are also a huge part of Black Friday in July. Cookware sets, towels, air fryers, coffee makers, blenders, steam mops, and vacuums were featured in various Black Friday in July sales and became some of the most popular deals on KCL.

Which stores participate in Black Friday in July?

Last year, Amazon’s 48-hour sale featured up to 60% off Alexa devices like the Echo Show and Echo Dot, up to 50% off select Fire HD Tablets, and up to 40% off Fire TV Sticks. Plus, Amazon dropped 30% to 40% off a huge selection of smart Fire TVs. We also saw deep discounts on Amazon-owned tech like Ring Video Doorbells.
But Amazon Prime Day is just one of many Black Friday in July sales.

  6. JCPenney Black Friday in July (60% - 80% off sale prices and an extra 30% off coupon code)
  7. Nordstrom Anniversary Sale (around 30% off thousands of styles)
  8. Belk Black Friday in July (up to 70% off toys and clothing)
  9. Dell Black Friday in July (laptops starting at $279; $40 off monitors, gaming, and audio)

Are the Black Friday in July deals for members-only?

Some sales are exclusive to members. For example, Amazon Prime Day deals are for Amazon Prime members only. If you're not a member, you can sign up for a free 30-day trial ahead of the big day to take full advantage of the Amazon Prime benefits during the sale.

Other major retailers typically open their sales to all shoppers, but paid members typically get early access, like we’ll see with the Walmart Prime Day deals.
Target RedCard holders will save an additional 5% on Target purchases.
