Black Friday in July sales are relatively new — the term first appeared in 2012 — but it wasn't until Amazon's first Prime Day in 2015 that things really heated up with the Prime Day competition. Since 2015, Black Friday in July has become a huge group of sales happening in mid-July and often overlapping with Prime Day. Many stores have a unique name for their July event: like Walmart Deals, Target's Circle Week in July  and Kohl's Summer Cyber Deals. Other stores like JCPenney officially named their sales “Black Friday in July.”

When is Black Friday in July 2024?

Remember, Black Friday in July sales are built around Amazon Prime Day, which always happens in mid-July and this year is confirmed for July 16 - 17, 2024. But a few stores hold their sale a little earlier or later than Amazon’s event.

What will be on sale?

You can expect the top Black Friday in July deals to focus heavily on tech. Look for Fire TV sticks and tablets on sale, Prime Day deals on Alexa devices, Prime Day Apple deals  on smart watches and Airpods, and more savings on headphones, and laptops. Black Friday in July tends to be more focused on smaller electronics. You’ll find a few Amazon Prime Day TV deals, but nothing like the volume you see in November. Household deals are also a huge part of Black Friday in July. Cookware sets, towels, air fryers, coffee makers, Ninja blenders, steam mops, and vacuums were featured in various Black Friday in July sales and became some of the most popular deals on KCL.

Which stores participate in Black Friday in July?

Last year, Amazon’s 48-hour sale featured up to 65% off Alexa devices like the Echo Pop, Echo Show and Echo Dot, up to 50% off select Fire HD Tablets, and up to 60% off Fire TV Sticks. Plus, we also saw deep discounts on smart Fire TVs and other Amazon-owned tech like Ring Video Doorbells.
But Amazon Prime Day is just one of many Black Friday in July sales.
