There’s no better way to start out 2024 than with more money in your wallet. And if you haven't heard about a no-spend month or a low-spend month, now is the perfect time to learn. Having a low-spend month means exactly what you think: saving money for a short amount of time. It means cutting back on full-price items and only looking for sale items on the things you really need. Of course, January is a perfect time to try the low-spend month challenge because there are so many deals happening now to help you stay within budget.

To help you get there, we put together a list of ways you can enjoy a low-spend January. We’re talking freebies, deals, and discounts that’ll help you save all month long. Whether you’re looking for clearance sales, food freebies, coffee deals, or gym savings, we’ve got ‘em. Plus, we share year round savings tips to keep your low spend habits going strong throughout 2024!

How to have a low-spend month: Shop clearance and sales.

January is all about clearance deals and sales, as you know. Ross' $0.49 cent sale should hit Jan. 22 with clearance items. Bath and Body Works semi-annual sale is happening right now, and Target, Walmart and Hobby Lobby are putting Christmas clearance at 90% off. If your purchase doesn't have an Amazon promo code on it or a red sticker on it, and it wasn't found on the clearance rack, then we suggest you don't buy it. Low spend means you need a deal.. every single time. Here are some other sales going on right now that can help you save on everything from apparel to toys to storage:

This month, have coffee at home (or at Dunkin’ where a medium iced or hot coffee is $2 all month long).

We all know pods are the cheaper way to go, but if you need a coffee out, Dunkin' is going to be your low-spend spot this season. That's because all January and February, Dunkin' Rewards members can get a $2 medium sized, hot or cold coffee every single day (that's $0.59 savings per day, or $17.70 per month compared to paying full price). Here are other coffee deals happening through Jan. 7:

Need more convincing that coffee pods are cheaper? Check out this pack at Costco, which gives you 120 pods for $32 (after a $6 coupon). That works out to $0.27 a day for about four months. Or this 100 count box on Amazon for $20.49 — $0.20 a day — when you Subscribe & Save. Compare to Dunkin' at $2 a day and that's a big difference in savings.

This month, these food deals will help you spend less.

We have plenty of low-spend every day food deals and freebies that will make January easy on your budget.
